J.J. Matijevic
A personal favorite (me and the kid were in the stadium for the Yankee DH last July), I’m struggling to see where Matijevic fits, other than as a pinch hitter and occasional first baseman.
It’s difficult to judge someone who got so few opportunities, but he strikes out too much (35.2%) and a 65 OPS+ is less than optimal.
Chas McCormick
It’s becoming obvious that the Astros aren’t completely sold on Chas McCormick as their centerfielder as he started only 54 games at the position in 2022 and the Astros often went with Jose Siri or Mauricio Dubon instead, which speaks volumes.
McCormick is a good/really good defender, but perhaps he’s better suited for left field where he started 32 games last season.
McCormick’s average dipped a bit last season and he strikes out a good bit, but he does hit with power with 28 home runs in 643 MLB at-bats over 2 seasons.
We’ll take the weekend off and be back Monday with Jake Meyers and Jeremy Pena.
