Rafael Montero
Sometimes you get fleeced on trades and sometimes you’re the fleecer, but including Rafael Montero in the Abraham Toro trade was one for the ages.
Quick, without using a device, how many saves did Montero have last season?
14!
When you have the luxury of having a “secondary” closer going 14 of 16 on saves you know things are going well.
Hector Neris
I questioned the signing of Neris, but it turns out he’s been a nice fit in the setup to the setup man role.
I also don’t expect him to have 11 saves, but the algorithm is based in part off history and Neris did have 7 save opportunities in 2022.
Neris is best in low leverage situations, as evidenced by his time in Philadelphia and 4 blown saves with the Astros in 2022.
