As I plan for next season and begin building that out in the background, it seems logical to look back and see what “worked” in 2023 and plan to do more of that in 2024.
For a long time, the most-read post was Jose Abreu’s projected statistics for 2023.
That makes sense on multiple levels. He was replacing an Astros legend and was an atypical acquisition for Jim Crane: A highish priced free agent.
The Abreu post remained No. 1 through the season but was then overtaken by two posts on (hopefully) future Astros, with the Spencer Arrighetti profile taking the top spot, followed by a look at Joey Loperfido.
The fourth spot belonged to another profile of a potential future star in the post on Will Wagner.
Coming in fifth was our 2023 projections for Jake Meyers and Jeremy Pena.
Admittedly, this one’s slightly baffling, but just guessing that Pena’s 2022 World Series performance led some to click in hopes of seeing astronomical numbers for 2023.
In the end, it was a nice mix of projections and looking to the future, and tells me I need to consider spending some time on the future even during the season.
